Los Angeles Comes to TM Scrap Metals

The metal recycling industry is big business. It’s not something you may I often think of because most metal recycling facilities located in the industrial parts of cities away from the businesses that most people frequent on a day-to-day basis. In our neck of the woods, which is Sun Valley California, we are located interest or industrial Area on Tuxford Street. And just because scrap metal recycling is a rather dirty and grungy pursuit doesn’t mean it’s not a vital part of any country’s economy.

Metal recycling equipment in Los Angeles

Just taking a look at aluminum cans for example, Think about all the soft drink or beer trucks you see delivering hundreds or thousands of aluminum cans to grocery stores, many markets or restaurants. This happens day in and day out. All those hundreds of thousands of cans will Be consumed and tossed out. Well, maybe not tossed out the toast into the recycling bin. Then the process starts all over again. Do the metals come from for the next hundred thousand aluminum cans? You guessed it, from metal recycling centers such as ours.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that our country moves on metal. Think railroad tracks, Automobiles, Aircraft and much more. Having to mine for metals it’s costly and time consuming so of course operations are going to need scrap metal to continue to do business. With these descriptions we’re merely touching the surface of the metal recycling industry. You can think of Industry in general, gracious monster that needs to be constantly fed. Not with food but with metal. Companies like ours supply this constant need without which our country and indeed to rest of the world would grind to a halt.

Companies like Ibisworld which track the revenue of various businesses and industries also keep track of secondary metals market can see from the article on this webpage of their website the power industry generates $50 billion per year.

Metal Recycling and Business

That’s a tremendous amount of money and it’s one of the reasons that we, as well as’s most others get into the cycling business, do what we do. Aside from altruism we’re in this business to make a profit because of our constant need greater and greater amounts of nonferrous medals every day we depend on our customers to deliver those metals to us. They are the first step in the recycling process and they as well as us can make a sizable profit by bringing scrap metals to a facility like ours.

If you want to be part of this $50 billion industry and you are living in the Los Angeles area and Enjoying the TM scrap metals team and bring your scrap metals to us. We truly are the best scrap metal recycling facility in the San Fernando Valley we want to be the name remember when you think about Metal recycling.

Where to Find These Treasure Troves of Scrap Metal

Metal recycling is often times a dirty business. Why? Well, the items we receive are not always in pristine condition, nor are they separated by types of metal. Sometimes the things that come into our recycling facility have to be further processed to Separate for extract one metal from another. If you skimmed over the content on our website you know that one of the things we ask for is electric motors. You may not have given much thought to this and if you thought of metal recycling at all this probably just taking your excess soft drink cans to the recycler for a few extra dollars.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. A metal recycling Company such as TM scrap metals Will be able to process those aluminum cans, sure. But we also have the resources to handle more complex jobs like separating one metal from another. In essence, we do the heavy lifting see you don’t have to worry about it. After all, do you have to resources to take apart an electric motor and Separate each component by the type of metal it is? We do. That’s our business.

Industrial electric motor for metal recycling in Los Angeles

We ask for electric motors to be recycled because they contain a Wealth of various metals including a significant amount of copper wire. Copper wire recycling is one of the biggest parts of our business and you can imagine why. Copper is used in hundreds of thousands of applications: in construction, electronics and plumbing, just to name a few.

So where do you find these electric motors? Just about anything that runs on the electricity it’s going to have an electric motor. Think about all the gadgets work tools in your kitchen that you plug in. Think of other items around the house like your vacuum what about that blender? If it’s electric and it moves thoughts are going to have an electric motor inside. How many ancient vacuums or other broken down electronics have you seen just tossed into the trash? In our disposable society, once something stops working the tendency is to just get rid of it. We’ve seen tons of electronics outside of houses waiting for the City of Los Angeles department of sanitation pick up these bulky items. Yes tossing them into the trash gets them out of sight and out of mind. However, if all these homeowners we’re throwing away these electronic items which contain electric motors new that they can actually get some money by recycling these items we’re sure that we see a lot less waiting to be picked up by the garbage people.

Seasoned scrap metal recyclers notice and some make the rounds of their neighborhoods looking for obsolete items that They can take apart, extract the electric motor, and bring it to the metal recycling facility. As with everything we recycle, bringing things like electric motors to us means that they don’t go into a landfill. We end up benefiting because we can break down those motors, extract individual metals, and sell them at a profit. The person who brings it to us receives some money for the scrap metal items instead of just throwing something in the trash and having to go out and buy a new version. And of course the environment benefits because that old vacuum cleaner or food processor and it’s heavy electric motor it’s not going into the trash dump.

Do you have an obsolete electronic item that contains a motor? Would you rather get cash for that scrap metal as opposed to throwing it in the trash? We know the answer is yes so please bring any and all Electric motors twice a TM scrap metals here in Sun Valley. We pay top prices for metals and We are the Best scrap metal recycling center the San Fernando Valley. Drop by with your electric motors and see why.

Metal recycling in Los Angeles has leg on the recycling facilities in other parts of the country– With the exception of Arizona or New Mexico. Why? That’s because California is home to some of the nations Aviation graveyards, also known as boneyards. Hugs are you seeing pictures please stretches of barren desert we’re Aircraft go to die. When was even used in a tom petty Music video years ago and they been used in the number of films and television shows.

Recycling aircraft scrap metal in Los Angeles

Quite simply, when the aircraft reached the end of their lifespans they are literally put out the pasture. In this case the pasture is some desert area in California, Arizona, for New Mexico. These aircraft remain as silent sentries in the desert for decades, waiting for somebody to visit or in the case of scrap metal recycling, to come and salvage parts from these obsolete aircraft.

Some, old commercial jetliners, I really time capsules because they park Doors closed for decades once someone is able to go inside they signed a perfectly preserved interior from perhaps the 1980s, 1970s or 60s. But When talking about metal recycling, we’re not interested in history, merely the recycled metals the weekend extract from the fuselage of the old planes. It takes special permission to get access to these aircraft boneyards in the case of some larger companies they can do take apart Aircraft in order to reuse parts on your model planes or to send recyclable metals to a facility like ours in Los Angeles.

However, these Aircraft graveyards are not the only source of old airplanes which can provide a enterprising scrapper with Literally tons of Metal. Old, obsolete or dilapidated aircraft can be found even in local junkyards. So, if you’re looking for a good source of metals there can be recycled for cash, you could contact local airports (here in the Los Angeles area that might include Van Nuys, Santa Monica Santa Monica Or other regional airports) and locate specific places where Aircraft owners may dump their planes.

Aside from the sheer amount of Metals find on Aircraft, they are also a good source of precious metals. Aircraft make use of the tremendous amount of electronics and avionics require metals such as copper, silver and even gold. That means if you have access to an aircraft in decent shape the amount of cash for scrap metal to be significant.

Light junk automobiles, junk aircraft a rich source of recyclable metals. Of course in the case larger aircraft it really will take an industrial effort to demolish the aircraft and separate recyclable items from others trash. But as we said, if you’re looking in locally you might just find a hidden gem of an old airplane that’s waiting for you to disassemble it and bring it to TM scrap metals. For more information on disassembly preparing metals for delivery to the Facility such as ours give us a call.

Scrap Metal Buyers Held to Stringent Standards

Metal recycling in Los Angeles is a well regulated industry. As you can imagine the process of recycling scrap metals may, it often does include some hazardous materials. It’s important, therefore, not only to us as the scrap metal dealer to the state of California that we have bye-bye certain state as well as federal regulations. We won’t really touched on the federal regulatory agencies that oversee this kind of work but of course the Environmental Protection Agency is one.

In California there are specific laws, regulations and policies in place to protect the environment while we go about our business recycling the Scrap metal scrap to our facility. For a complete list of all those involved in oversight is it the California Department of toxic substances control website which we will link to here. As we mention the D TSC is one of those oversight departments but the California Department of resources recycling and recovery, also known as Cal recycle, is in charge with regulating the recycling of electronic waste. In order to keep our California waterways clean the California State water resources control Board or SW RCB manages the oversight of steaks drinking water.

Screenshot of CA state metal recycling regulations

While our metal recycling Business here in Sun Valley California is not near any significant body of water runoff from industrial facilities like ours can be a problem if it runs into storm drains. That water flows into the ocean and so it is a concern even when talking about scrap metal yard that are far inland. This concern is the bailiwick of the California department of industrial relations for DIR for short.

Organizations that take junk cars they can be dismantled an recycled as scrap fall under the auspices of CalOSHA. The California department of motor vehicles also needs to provide licenses to those businesses that dismantle and recycle car parts.

As you can see, our business it Is heavily regulated to make sure that you consumer are protected. Even though what we do he’s in large part beneficial to the environment, the process of recycling metals can and does generate a certain amount of waste and steps need to be taken to make sure whatever waste is generated is contained and disposed of according to the law.

Any hazardous materials that are part and parcel of the scrap metal brought our facility are also closely monitored to make sure that they do not contaminate the area or — in the case of storm drains—do not end up fouling California’s coast line.

This is just food for thought and something to keep in mind the next time you bring a load of scrap metal to us for cash. The whole process can be beneficial to both scrap metal recycling facilities as well as their customers and the environment as a whole. We get the scrap metal we need to sell to third parties, you customer walks away with cash and the state of California thanks to oversight and regulation remains clean and unspoiled. For more information the legal aspects of metal recycling check out the DTSC website or any other state of California online resources dealing with recycling or hazardous waste.

Is Recycling Pennies a Good Idea?

Recycling of metals can pay well depending on how much you have and the type of metal it is. As we wrote many times before, nonferrous metals are going to have a bigger payout compared to ferrous metals. Copper continues to be one metal that pays the most per pound. That brings us to the subject of pennies. These ubiquitous copper coated coins remind everybody about copper since that’s what we see when we hold one in our hands, but is it worth it to recycle these one cent pieces? Not really, and here’s why.

Can copper pennies be recycled?

Way back when the United States was first formed and Benjamin Franklin was in charge design and minting of coins, that first penny was made of 100% copper. Given enough of these pennies, they could easily be melted down and recycled. Of course we’re talking about pennies that are now over 200 years old and are worth more as coins in the ever would be as recycled metal.

In the years since our country’s founding, however, the composition of our pennies is changed. Just after the Civil War the composition changed from 100% copper to 95% copper and 5% zinc. Fast forward to the late 20th Century and up to today that ratio has flipped and our modern-day pennies are more than 95% zinc and less than 5% copper. On a side note you may once in a while find a penny that has no copper. These were produced during World War II when the government needed as much copper as possible.

Trying to salvage copper from today’s pennies would probably take more effort than it’s worth given the low copper content. When all is said and done the answer is no. It’s not worth taking a wheelbarrow of pennies to your local recycling center. You’re better off taking them to your local grocery store or pharmacy that has a Coinstar machine and turning them in for a cash payout.

Other forms of copper are of course still in demand and if you have copper pipes or other plumbing fixtures, pots and pans that are past their prime, or anything else made of that metal, it’s worth bringing it to a metal recycling center like TM Scrap Metals.

On a note that’s unrelated to metal recycling, it may just pay extremely well to go through that piggy bank or jar of old coins and take a look at every single penny. Some extremely valuable coins have been found in circulation decades or centuries after they were first minted. If you find one that looks a little different from today’s modern penny, even though it may be the same size and weight, hold onto it and check out valuable coins online before you take it to your nearest Coinstar machine.

Otherwise, if it’s metal, odds are it can be recycled. If you’re in Los Angeles area the one name you need to remember for metal recycling is TM Scrap Metals. We may not take your pennies but we will pay top dollar!

What Metals Are in Highest Demand

Making money from recycling metals can be a lucrative business. It’s certainly not the career most people would choose, but some Los Angeles area scrappers who know what to look for make decent money by bringing scrap metals to us for recycling. The ones who are hardcore scrappers are constantly on the lookout for supplies of different types of metals. Because it’s always at the top of their minds, scrappers we deal with are experts finding those throw away items that can actually lead to a big pay out.

nonferrous metal cogs to be recycled

For better or for worse most people just toss out things that They think they don’t need anymore. As the old saying goes, out of sight out of mind. However, there’s also another say the one person’s junk is another person’s treasure. In the realm Metal recycling that’s especially true. Opportunities to find supplies of discarded metal items abound all the time. One of the byproducts of being located in the Los Angeles area is that we have so many freeways and unfortunately traffic accidents. Take a look on any Irvine roadside and you’re bound to find some metal item that’s falling off a car after an accident. Heck, mental items might just fall off a dump truck if they’re not secured properly. So, whether it’s a metal bumper for an old banged up aluminum pot they’ve finally decided the road, if it’s nonferrous metal pick it up and bring it to TM scrap metals.

That brings up the subject of ferrous versus non-ferrous metals. In the most simplest terms Ferris metals are those that contain iron. And, as we all know Iron tends to rust. Metal alloys like brass for aluminum that don’t rust have many more applications and are thus in higher demand. Think about the plumbing at your house. Nobody is using iron pipes for their plumbing these days. And that’s obviously because nobody wants to be drinking or bathing in rusty water. Today’s plumbing is either plastic brass or copper.

Many of the posts the we’ve written on this website going into detail about ferrous vs non-ferrous metals so we won’t belabor the point. However, we will stress again that enterprising scrappers become experts finding supplies of these nonferrous metals. Highways, roadside’s, junkyards or illegal dumping grounds are prime areas in which to find free sources of metals that can be recycled. It’s too bad that those people who one reason or another discarded in these metal items did not realize that There’s money to be made. We, as a metal recycling facility, are in the business of selling these metals two companies and/or countries that need them. Indeed, the need for metals in manufacturing is constant so we are always on the lookout for our own supply metals and we depend on customers in the Los Angeles area to continue supplying us with the nonferrous metals that we need. If you have the time to invest, there is a pretty penny to be made in the area of metal recycling. Whether you’re supply of metals that you bring to us is large or small you’re still going to get the best price and Los Angeles area so, we encourage everybody to recycle and for those few make a career out of it the only thing you need to know in Los Angeles metal recycling is TM scrap metals.

https://www.tmscrapmetals.com
The post Riding the (Non) Ferrous Wheel first appeared on TM Scrap Metals.

Noise, Pollution Create Bad Environments

Metal recycling Los Angeles can be a dirty job. After all, this is an industrial pursuit. Scrap metal recycling does not lend itself to white gloves. You can tell from our location sun Valley, California that our business and those around it are indeed more industrial. Businesses like ours need to be quite a bit removed from residential areas. There are a number of reasons for that. One is the amount of noise that metal recycling can generate. The other should not be a concern, but unfortunately in some cases it is. Unscrupulous scrap metal dealers may turn a blind eye to toxic waste and run off from their facility. This is true specially residential neighborhoods for those places that are close to schools.

Case in point: actually in the Los Angeles area (the Community of Watts) the metal recycling facility was finally forced to shut down and closed their doors after years of residents’ complaints. The facility was accused of allowing toxic runoff from their recycling efforts to bleed into the soil and affect those living in the area. There’s a Los Angeles Times article about this for you can read more information.

Metal recycling should not generate this!

Toxic waste is not the only byproduct people living near a recycling center. As we mentioned above, noise pollution can affect the residents of a community just as much as ingesting some poison that has seat into The ground. Places like airports I Understand how hi Joyce levels can affect the area around them in many take steps to limit the that planes can fly into and out of the Specific airport. In some cases the airports took it upon themselves to address this issue, in other cases they may have been forced to by certain local community or by law.

Same concern The airport show to the people living around them is something that a scrap metal recycling facility also needs to be aware of. Taking steps to reduce the amount of noise that comes out of the facility it’s a good step an means that the scrap metal recycling company respects its neighbors.

Even though our efforts our Metal recycling Center are dirty and sometimes noisy, we like to think the TM scrap metals is committed to preserving the environment— through our recycling efforts themselves–and being good neighbors to those who surround us. We’re glad that we are located in Just such an industrial area which eliminates some of these problems. Also the fact that we limit our hours so that we are not recycling metals after 6 PM, about the time that most people return home from work.

Yes, we want your Metal recycling business we want to be the ones did you bring your scrap metal too. But we also want to be good citizens, good stewards of the environment in Good neighbors to the people who live around us. And, if you’ve never heard us doing our job during the day, that’s by design. We hope you never do!

Scrap Metal Recycling Unaffected at TM Scrap Metals

Los Angeles recycling centers apparently suffered greatly during the height of the coronavirus outbreak. Back in December the Los Angeles times published an article detailing the trials and tribulations of the recycling industry in the Southland. While the result of the Coronavirus was that many scrap metal recycling centers closed their doors for some time, people found it difficult to locate a place to take their excess scrap metals.

According to the article, however, there was another incident that affected scrap metal yards around the country even before the effects of COIVD-19 were being felt. There was a collapse of the recycling market because many buyers overseas were not purchasing the amount of scrap materials that they had in the past. This caused a significant number of recycling centers to shutter their doors. Because of this and after being hit by the second punch of the coronavirus, many recycling centers closed up shop.

This caused people who wanted to recycle to find other places to take their scrap metal. While some recycling centers went out of business, others like us–TM Scrap Metals in Sun Valley, California–to deal with a surge in scrap metal customers. One company’s loss is another company’s gain as it turns out.

Los Angeles recycling center aluminum rims

As of June 15 fifteenth of this year we can fairly safely say that the shutdowns and restrictions imposed is the coronavirus are mostly a thing of the past as California begins the process of getting back to business and recovering both physically and financially from the coronavirus. However, this is all a long way of saying that TM Scrap Metals continues to service the scrap metal recycling market. We have been fortunate in that we have not felt the effects here that other scrap metal dealers in and around Los Angeles have felt.

Metal Recycling for All San Fernando Valley

With the closure of the number of metal recycling facilities in the Southland scrappers may need to locate another facility to take their scrap metals to. If that’s your situation we just wanted to say that we are open and busy! We are the Los Angeles recycling center of choice for a variety of reasons. One is that we are conveniently located just off Interstate 5 in Sun Valley, north of Burbank. This makes us an ideal location for all San Fernando Valley metal recycling

And we also like to stress the fact that because of our mobile recycling service it doesn’t matter where you are in greater Los Angeles. If you have scrap metal you need to recycle for cash we can come to you and pick it up. If COVID-19 put your recycling plans on hold and you have an over abundance of scrap metal you need to recycle, call TM Scrap Metals today. 818-771-0510.

Burbank Scrap Metal Yard Pays Cash for Scrap

Scrap metal prices are always on the mind of our local scrappers. We get scrap from all over the San Fernando Valley and with our mobile recycling option we can come to any location around Los Angeles. But Burbank scrap metal recyclers know about us since we’re so close. Glenoaks Blvd. runs through all of Burbank and Glendale but to the north of those cities, Glenoaks runs right through Sun Valley. In fact we’re Burbank’s immediate neighbor so a short drive up that thoroughfare will take you right to Tuxford St. and our location.

Burbank scrap metal recycling

Being so close to Burbank and the fact that Burbank is rather bereft of metal recycling facilities, most folks end up bringing their Burbank scrap metal to us. Indeed, do a Google search for “Burbank scrap metal recycling” and you won’t find a location in that city. No worries, it’s only a few minutes’ drive north to get to us.

Because we’re neighbors, Burbankians tend to look us up for scrap metal pricing and honestly ours are the best scrap metal prices in Los Angeles. Certainly in our portion of L.A. and you’d be hard pressed to find better metal prices anywhere in the Burbank area.

Directions From Burbank

If you’re coming to TM Scrap Metals from Glendale or Burbank and want to take surface streets, it’s simple. Take Glenoaks Blvd. north to Tuxford. Make a left turn and find us at 11092 Tuxford St, Sun Valley, CA 91352. Coming from the north and cities like Sylmar or Arleta? Take Glenoaks south and turn right on Tuxford.

If you’re coming from further away or from cities in the western San Fernando Valley take the 118 or 101 freeways east and then to the I-5 north or south (depending on where you are relative to Sun Valley) and take the Tuxford St. offramp.

Despite no metal recycling yards in Burbank, that city—with a steady influx of film and tv production and post production businesses—generates a lot of excess building material including a significant amount of scrap metal. That metal needs a home and there’s no sense in leaving scrap lying around when recycling it is a painless way to earn cash. That’s why Burbank scrappers come to us. If you’re a Burbank, CA home or business owner and find yourself with a lot of scrap metal (aluminum, steel, copper, brass or other metals) the call you need to make is to TM Scrap Metals. We’re Burbank close, but remember we can come to you so no matter where you are, TM Scrap Metals can be there too! Call us today! 818-771-0510.

“Stainless steel scrap prices” is a popular search on Google. A few thousand people search for this term each month. It’s not hard to determine why. Although a common metal stainless steel is important invaluable because it’s made up other metals that in and of themselves are valuable. Think about nickel for molybdenum. Yesterday we wrote a brass scrap prices because the mental fetches a good price per pound but stainless steel is also a good metal to recycle.

Many scrappers that come through our doors are repeat customers and they have extensive experience in metal recycling. However, if you’re just getting into scrapping and you’re looking for a Burbank recycling center, probably one of the first things you’ll do is look up the price of stainless steel scrap. There are a number of websites available that list scrap metal prices (in indeed TM Scrap Metals has its own scrap metal pricing page) you’ll probably run into a site like scrapmonster.com which List the various metal prices and compares things like prepared versus unprepared scrap.

Taking a look at their continuously updated list you can see that unprepared stainless steel scrap goes for about $.22 per pound where is prepared stainless steel scrap fetches about $.45 per pound. There’s a difference on the order of 50% between prepared and unprepared stainless steel and the question arises, are you as the seller of scrap metal, willing to do what it takes to prepare the metal you want to recycle?

It’s the same principle that we touched on when talking about wire recycling. TM Scrap Metals, as a scrap metal dealer, is equipped to strip insulated copper wire, whereas most people you don’t have the equipment, the time or both and would simply prefer to bring in the unprepared scrap metal–for example insulated copper wire–and leave the wire recycling to us. The same question remains when you’re talking about stainless steel scrap. Do you have the time or the desire to prep it?

At our scrap metal yard there are a number methods you can choose from when selling your scrap metal to us. They range from the easiest–absolutely hands off, we take care of everything–to the more labor intensive do-it-yourself options. The choice is up to you. No matter what, our recycling center will still pay top prices in the Los Angeles scrap metal market.
