Cash for Scrap for In-Demand Metals

Recycling metals in Los Angeles is big business. You might not think it to look at a scrap metal recycling center (like TM Scrap Metals, Inc.) since most of the scrap yards are located in L.A.’s more industrial areas. However, the scrap metal recycling industry is expected to generate more than 23 billion dollars in 2021. Despite ups and downs, price fluctuations and even a pandemic thrown into the mix, recycling scrap metal is something in demand since manufacturers need metal and recycling it is cheaper than creating those same metals from scratch.

Just about every metal you can name is on the recycling list, although we don’t get much call for ytterbium ‘round these parts. Some scrap metal buyers will deal in ferrous metals as well as non-ferrous, but for us at TM Scrap Metals, our focus is on non-ferrous metals. Why? For us it makes economic sense. Yes, iron (whose elemental symbol on the periodic table if Fe—hence Ferrous) will always have a demand, but non-ferrous metals have a higher demand for various reasons.

Aluminum can: part of non ferrous metal recycling in Los Angeles

Take any non-ferrous metal (e.g., aluminum) and you’ll at once recognize it is corrosion resistant. Brass or stainless steel are similar. Non-corrosion is a big deal. It means those things made from non-ferrous metals will have a longer usable lifetime and as such are in higher demand. Think about the aluminum rims on your car. They’re not going to rust away after you drive through a rushing torrent during a rainstorm. That stainless steel kitchen knife won’t be oxidizing just because you ran it under hot, soapy water to clean it. It will be there in pristine condition for years to come.

We’ve touched on brass as well in our brass scrap prices post a while back. There’s a reason brass was (and is) used in nautical equipment. It won’t rust. There’s not a large market for iron trumpets, either. And copper is famous for its use in plumbing. It might develop a green patina over the years but you’ll be long gone before copper rusts away. It just doesn’t.

TM Scrap Metals LOVES non ferrous metals!

Suffice it to say that non-ferrous metals are used to a great extent in myriad ways and things. Whatever needs to be produced with a particular metal means that metal will be in constant demand. Creating brass on the fly from an admixture of copper and zinc is time consuming and costly. Hence manufacturers continue to depend on scrap metal recycling centers like TM Scrap Metals in Los Angeles. The non-ferrous metals are in higher demand than ferrous metals and as such allows us to make a greater profit as well as being able to pay more to scrappers looking to make cash for their scrap.

For those with time on their hands, scouring some of Los Angeles’ dumpsters, or auto auctions for metal leftovers can mean a nice chunk of change in your pocket for a little bit of dirty work. Even if you’re not one of those mercenary scrappers and perhaps just a construction company or demolition business with excess metals, bringing it to your local Los Angeles scrap metal dealer means less waste, more money coming back to the company, less use of landfill (as well as a profit for us!).

Los Angeles’ Scrap Location

Or use our mobile metal recycling service where we come to you! Either way, TM Scrap Metals is the company you want to deal with when selling scrap for cash. Call us today! 818-771-0510.

Metal Recycling Center Nearby in Sun Valley

Your Burbank recycling center is TM Scrap Metals in neighboring Sun Valley. In fact you can’t get any closer to Burbank and still be another city. That’s what makes us so convenient.

For Burbank residents or businesses that want to recycle non-ferrous metals for cash, we’re the location you want to hard-code into that GPS device? Why? Convenience, for one thing. Our Tuxford Street location is only minutes from Burbank. One straight shot up Glenoaks Blvd and a turn onto Tuxford and you’re here!

Burbank Recycle Center may be a familiar term to Burbank citizens, but try to get cash for your scrap metals inside the Burbank city limits and you’ll be disappointed. With only a few minutes’ drive from the Media City you can turn those non-ferrous metals into dollars. It’s a win-win proposition since we get the scrap metals we need and you get rid of the metals you DON’T need. Plus you walk away with money in your pocket. It doesn’t get better than that, does it?

Non-Ferrous Metal Recycling Near Burbank

While TM Scrap Metals can be literally anywhere in Southern California and the greater Los Angeles area thanks to our mobile recycling service, many people—especially those in Burbank, Glendale and surrounding areas—opt to bring their metals to us. We’re close. We’re convenient. We pay cash for scrap.

Old brass: a key non-ferrous metal at our Burbank recycling center

What’s the best scrap metal to recycle with us? It’s the non-ferrous metals that are the best paying and in the highest demand. As we’ve stated before in earlier Burbank recycling center posts non-ferrous metals (things like aluminum, nickel, lead, tin, brass, silver, or zinc) are those metals that do not contain any (or much) iron. One way to determine the type of metal (ferrous or non-ferrous) is by using a magnet. A magnet will attach itself to ferrous metals like iron but not to non-ferrous metals like copper or brass.

While you may only be interested in how much a particular metal pays per pound or ton, you may be interested to know why these types of metals are in demand. Many non-ferrous metals share characteristics such as tensile strength and corrosion resistance. Properties like these mean these metals are useful for many purposes. Recycling these metals means, of course, that they don’t have to be created from scratch—a costly and time-consuming process. Manufacturers would much rather melt down preexisting metals to utilize in their needs and recycling centers like TM Scrap Metals provide the scrap those companies need. You, as the recycler (or scrapper) play a key role in providing those materials (non-ferrous metals) in the first step of the recycling process.

In Burbank and the surrounding area, scrappers like you need a recycling center to deal with and once again that’s us. Have you got non-ferrous metals you need to get rid of while making cash in the bargain? Call us at TM Scrap Metals or just drop your metals off at our Sun Valley location. Cash for scrap. It’s a beautiful concept!

Scrap Brass For Cash In Los Angeles

Brass scrap prices in Los Angeles are one of the highest for any scrap metal. Granted, copper scrap continues to be “king” (as we wrote a short time ago) but if brass is not king, it surely must be a prince. As of this writing copper is going for $3.38 per pound but brass is a close second coming in at anywhere from $1.80 to $250 per pound based on the type of brass you bring in to scrap for cash.

Red vs. Yellow Brass

For the uninitiated—those new to scrap metal recycling—just like copper there are different types or classifications of brass. Some pay more than others. Did you know there is yellow brass as well as red brass? Red brass is actually bronze and not true brass. Brass is made up of copper and zinc. Bronze is created by combining copper with tin (and/or other metals). Yellow brass is an alloy made up of copper and zinc. Red brass, as we said, is bronze and made up of copper, tin and zinc.

For scrap brass prices in Los Angeles call TM Scrap Metals

Yellow brass is perhaps the most familiar to us because of its use in musical instruments. This hard metal is also found in things like locks and door handles. It’s also sometimes used in electrical components. Firearms enthusiasts will no doubt recognize brass in the cartridges they use and expend when shooting. Red brass is used in things like valves, sprinklers or other plumbing parts.

Brass is a heavier metal (compared to something like aluminum) so a smaller amount pays much more than its aluminum equivalent. Taking a moment to collect spent shells at the shooting range could turn out to be lucrative due to the weight of brass.

Red brass has a higher copper content than yellow brass and as such pays a bit more at the scrap metal recycling center. There is also something called semi-red brass which is cheaper to manufacture than true red brass because of the other metals added to this alloy including zinc, tin and lead.

For those new to scrap metal recycling in the Los Angeles area, when you find yourself in possession of a ton (perhaps literally) of scrap brass but aren’t sure what kind or quality of brass it is, you need only call the scrap metal experts at TM Scrap Metals. We’ll be able to identify the metal and let you know its value as of that day. For scrap brass pricing it only takes one call.

Scrapping brass, copper or other non-ferrous metals in L.A., it pays—literally—to deal with the best recycling center in Los Angeles: TM Scrap Metals. Freeway close in Sun Valley, but even close thanks to our mobile recycling service. Call us for the best scrap brass prices in Los Angeles. 818-771-0510.
